Morning Session Afternoon Session

Closed-ended structures (whether traditional private equity/venture capital, insurance or other bespoke models) raise distinct issues ranging from valuation, strategy and investor supervision, to fiduciary issues including side letters and advisory/investment committee establishment and operation.

9:45 – 10:00

Where Funds and Wealth Management intersect: Wealthy groups and individuals in emerging markets utilise Fund structures for wealth management.  Emerging markets provide specific challenges from a lack of familiarity with proper fiduciary governance to requiring bespoke solutions to satisfy investors new to Funds.

Breakout session is open to all interested conference attendees and starts at 12:20pm.

Funds of Hedge Funds

Funds of hedge funds can be highly effective at diversifying risk over a number of hedge fund styles and managers.  The goals and value added of funds of funds managers will be presented.  However, funds of hedge funds have been suffering outflows, as the extra fee burden can make these vehicles less attractive when compared against multi-strategy hedge fund or a portfolio of hedge funds built by an investor.  Specific comparisons between funds of funds, multi-strategy funds, and direct investment in hedge fund portfolios will be explored.  The changing nature of the hedge fund industry since 2008 will also be discussed.

OIL is now in its fifth year of compiling its market leading survey of industry leaders on the challenges to the offshore finance industry and the road ahead to 2020.

2:30 – 2:45

A discussion of recent developments, including claw-back claims, litigation funding, exercising examination / document production powers outside the jurisdiction, and the pros and cons of Chapter 11 and Chapter 15 for Cayman liquidators.

The Singapore economic story is well known as a testament to long-range planning, business friendly government and shrewd regulation providing a thriving location for wealth and fund management.  Can Cayman learn from Singapore and how does a small country retain its dominance in Funds and other sectors?  What role does government play?
